A thriving Eagle Creek ecosystem where clean water, abundant wildlife, protected natural landscapes, and responsible community growth coexist throughout the Eagle Creek Watershed, ensuring lasting environmental and economic health and public enjoyment.
Our Mission
Eagle Creek Preservation, Inc., an Indiana nonprofit corporation organized to be a 501(c)(3) tax exempt entity, is dedicated to protecting, preserving, and enhancing the environmental integrity of the Eagle Creek Watershed, including the Eagle Creek Reservoir, for current and future generations. As volunteers, we strive to safeguard one of Indiana’s most valuable natural resources through advocacy, stewardship, education and community engagement.
Our Priorities
Protect Water Quality
Advocate for policies and practices that preserve and improve the purity and sustainability of water resources, and the ecological health, of the Eagle Creek Watershed, including the Eagle Creek Reservoir.
Promote Responsible Stewardship
Monitor real estate development, infrastructure proposals and recreational amenities throughout the Eagle Creek Watershed, and encourage sustainable practices that minimize the environmental impacts of such projects.
Adherence to Environmental Laws
Work through federal, state and local agencies and courts for the benefit of the region’s citizens to protect drinking water and waterways from pollution and to protect wildlife habitats and streams throughout the Eagle Creek Watershed by ensuring that governmental entities and private interests follow applicable environmental laws and regulations.
Educate and Engage the Community
Foster public awareness of environmental issues regarding water usage, water quality, and wastewater processing affecting the Eagle Creek Watershed through educational programs, scientific collaboration, outreach, and volunteer opportunities. Advocate for Science-Based Decision Making. Support environmental policies, regulatory actions, and watershed management practices grounded in sound science, transparency, and long-term ecological sustainability.
Ensure a Lasting Legacy
Preserve the Eagle Creek Watershed, including the Eagle Creek Reservoir, as a clean, healthy, and resilient natural resource for future generations.
NOTE: Eagle Creek Preservation, Inc. (“Preservation”) is a 501(c)3 tax exempt organization established by a volunteer group of neighbors who have been engaging in advocating for transparency regarding the threatened adverse impacts of the LEAP development on our water resources. Preservation is not affiliated with the Eagle Creek Park Foundation (“Foundation”) nor the Eagle Creek Park Advisory Committee (“Committee”), although several past leaders of the two organizations are among the founders of Preservation. The Foundation and the Committee concentrate on programming within the Eagle Creek Park and enhancements to the Park’s physical resources, under the auspices of the IndyParks and Recreation and the City of Indianapolis. Preservation is an independent entity devoted exclusively to the water quality of the Eagle Creek Reservoir and the much larger watershed of which the reservoir is a part. Preservation does not raise funds for any Foundation or Committee programs or projects.
